October 2013

We had a wonderful group for our night walk last night, and weather was cool and refreshing! We had families, couples and a very nice group of friends celebrating a birthday. We were able to see 2 screech owls up close and then enjoyed the campfire with a fun Halloween story and lots of marshmallow roasting! Hope to see you on our next one on November 15, which will have a Thanksgiving theme!

There are lots of butterflies at the park right now, especially the large and beautiful Polydamas Swallowtail. The caterpillar feeds on pipevine, which we have growing on a trellis behind the campfire circle.

The adults feed on scarlet bush and many other flowers in the butterfly garden. Please do not remove the caterpillars, since they only feed on this specific plant!

Eagle scouts added 5 new bird feeders, 2 benches on wheels, fixed the roof of our woodshed, and added 2 new photo op butterflies! Come visit the park and enjoy! Thank you to troop #599!

We will have volunteer workdays periodically during the year, but not always on the same days or times, due to our busy fall/winter schedules. Our next workdays will be on Sunday, October 20, from 2-5 pm, Sunday, December 8, from 1-4 pm. January through May we will have workdays on the second Sunday of each month, from 1-4 pm..

Please call 305-242-7688 to register. If you come, be prepared to work mostly outdoors. Sun protection, water, long pants, gloves, and clippers would be good to bring. Please also bring any paperwork you would need us to sign for your hours. Hope to see you soon!

Hi everyone,

there is a correction for online registration. Where is asks for category of activity, please choose ecoadventures instead of specialty. Everthing else should be the same. Let me know if you have any problems, so we can iron them out before things get really busy. Thank you for your patience as we implement this new system! The link is:
